Nature Spotters unearth Wellington’s natural wonders

Gen Power, Sophie Finn, Charlotte Finn and Tim Finn plant native seeds at Burrendong Arboretum.

Sophie Finn and Ryan Finn examine fossils during a lab session at Wellington Caves.

DURING THESE school holidays a group of lucky locals became Nature Spotters.

Over one big week, participating students had the opportunity to go kayaking along the Macquarie (Wambuul) River, track down fossils on the Wellington Caves Fossil Trail, get up close and personal with a python, lizards and spiny leaf insects at a Reptile Show, explore Fern Gully and learn how to plant native seeds at the Burrendong Botanic Garden and Arboretum.

Nature Spotters is a program run by Mid Macquarie Landcare where children aged 8 to 14 get hands-on experience with all the wonders of Wellington’s natural world.

At the end of last week one of the participants, Sophie Finn asked, “When is Nature Spotters on next? I can’t wait to do it again!”

Nature Spotters is set to run during Term 1 in Wellington.

The program consists of six sessions during the term with each session running for two hours one afternoon per week.

For a small fee give your family member this great experience, email Mid Macquarie Landcare on info@mml.org.au or 0457 115 525 to book in.
