Tinsel takeover at hospital

WE TEND to only think of hospital when we feel ill or involved in an accident.

But as we get closer to Christmas, the whole atmosphere within Wellington hospital changes to an incredible festive

season celebration.

Just call in and you’ll see and feel the giving nature among the staff that Christmas brings.

And this year is no different to any other.

Except, this year hospital staff have been working twice as hard decorating every room, hallway and ward so Wellington can regain the coveted Christmas Decoration Competition accolade won by Dubbo hospital last year.

The Christmas decorations theme this year is “Make a Wish” and school students have also been busy helping by making their own decorations within the hospital departments.

As it is said, Christmas is the time for giving, and this year is no exception at the hospital which is again, combining with all other Western Area Health District hospitals to conduct the KISS program – Kids in need of Santa Sacks.

“We’re all contributing to the Jason Owen’s Doin it for Rural Aussie Kids foundation, says Physiotherapy department head, Lisa Hodges.

Struggling rural families are identified by health professionals in each hospital as being from struggling rural families who need a helping hand at Christmas.

Ms Hodges said Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club has come on board this year to promote the program.

All we ask is for people who care about rural kids whose families may be struggling, to donate a present or two,” she said.

“Presents can be left at either the Soldiers Club or here at the hospital, and we will wrap them and fill Santa Sacks for distribution closer to Christmas.”

Last year hundreds of presents were donated which filled 28 Santa Sacks.

“We hope we can get close to double that this year with everyone’s help.”
