Federal Independent Member for Calare Andrew Gee at the land clearing in Durridgere State Conservation Area where he estimates an estimated 100,000 trees axed.
FOLLOWING THE environmental vandalism that occurred on Merotherie Road north of Gulgong, the Australian Government and the Environment Minister said they would investigate, but we have heard nothing.
Then journalists found out that they had basically exonerated the NSW Government of any wrongdoing.
If that’s true, the public needs to see the report.
We all saw the trees coming down in the century’s old wildlife corridor.
We all saw the hundreds of native birds killed and orphaned because the NSW Government and their contractors EnergyCo and ACEREZ decided to bulldoze right through nesting season.
If the Australian Government has an investigation report that clears those who carried out this disgraceful destruction of any wrongdoing, then it should release the full investigation report immediately.
The public needs to see the evidence that justifies this environmental vandalism.
Where’s the report Murray?
100,000 Trees destroyed
Out at the Durridgere State Conservation Area, just north of Mudgee and Ulan, it’s an absolute disgrace.
The NSW Government is bulldozing every single tree in this corridor to make way for power lines for the Renewable Energy Zone.
If anyone else did this, even on their own property, they’d be hauled before the courts and in jail in a flash.
But here, the woodchippers are working overtime and there’s not a single consequence.
Destroying an estimated 100,000 trees in a state protected sanctuary that was meant to be preserved for future generations.
It’s not just a clearing; it’s outrageous environmental vandalism.
What was once native wildlife habitat is now a moonscape.
Because it’s the state government doing the dozing and chipping, they get away with it - just like Merotherie Road.
