Now one town under one council administration

YEOVAL TOWNSHIP and its people are no longer separated by a line on a map since 1885, says Yeoval historian and

advocate to have North Yeoval consolidated with the rest of the town, Vicky Parkes.

“We are one township, one community and now under one council administration,” she said. “This amalgamation to be administered by one Council has been a long time in the making.”

Mrs Parkes said the amalgamation was first raised as an issue as far back as in the 1940s, by Councillor Sidney Johnson, who became Deputy Mayor of the old Amaroo Shire Council.

“In the 1970s his son Elvin Johnson, then Councillor, on the newly formed Cabonne Council again raised the issue,” she said.

“For over 140 Years the township of Yeoval, has settled along both sides of Buckinbah Creek.”

She said in 1885, Yeoval was mapped and divided into two County (Council) Areas, The Division Line being the middle of The Buckinbah Creek.

“ The small community of Yeoval was split in two, this has caused community problems ever since.

* The Yeoval General Cemetery, was in Grundy Parish, Wellington County (northern side). If you died in Yeoval in the Buckinbah Parish, Gordon County (southern side). Your family had to get permission to bury you in another parish.

* North Yeoval grew with The Railway Station and its infrastructure. Several houses were built on the northern side of the Buckinbah Creek, most having a few acres around them, up to eighty residences and several streets were constructed in North Yeoval .

After Dubbo Regional Council took over Wellington Council things got worse - which Council was responsible for water supply, sewerage and garbage collection to Nth Yeoval?

The zoning in North Yeoval was changed to Rural - this meant no new houses could be built in North Yeoval.

At the Council Elections North Yeoval Residences could not vote in Yeoval, because it was in a different Council area. North Yeoval residences had to drive into Wellington to vote.

In 2020, a concerned group of North Yeoval Residences began, advocating to both Dubbo Regional Council and Cabonne Council to amalgamate both Nth Yeoval and Yeoval under one Council.

Finally, after five years of negotiation between Cabonne Council and Dubbo Regional Council - an Agreement on Boundaries was drawn up and sent to the NSW State Planning and Mapping Authority.

The North Yeoval and Yeoval Council Boundaries Changes have been approved and Maps altered, Yeoval and North Yeoval as of 1st July 2026 will come under the administration and mapped area of Cabonne Council.

For Yeoval, this means the township and its people are no longer physically separated by a line drawn on a map in 1885. They are one township, one community under one council administration.
