Yeoval united at long last

Cabonne Council gains complete control of what was a (local government) boundary divide in major milestone for the whole community who have advocated for more than 140 years.

IT’S TAKEN 140 years, but Yeoval is no longer a divided town controlled by two masters.

As of yesterday, North Yeoval is now incorporated to Cabonne Council.

The boundary adjustment from Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) took effect from July 1.

The merge proposal was jointly progressed by both Cabonne Council and DRC throughout 2024 and 2025, with a formal application lodged with the Office of Local Government (OLG) on January 13 this year.

Extensive consultation was undertaken at various stages, including direct engagement with landowners and the broader Yeoval community.

To support the transition, Cabonne Council and DRC have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining funding for key local infrastructure, including a shared pathway along Renshaw McGirr Way and updated street signage.

The adjustment reached its final stage following consideration by the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of NSW on June 17, with formal notification received ahead of the July 1 commencement.

Mayor of Cabonne, Kevin Beatty said the adjustment represented a positive, community-driven outcome.

“This boundary adjustment reflects what the community has been advocating for over many years, bringing Yeoval together under one council to provide clearer, more consistent services,” Clr Beatty said.

“We’re pleased to be working collaboratively with Dubbo Regional Council to deliver this outcome and

support the future of the Yeoval community.”

DRC Mayor Josh Black said the decision made sense for everyone.

“This change finally unifies the North Yeoval community with Yeoval under the banner of one single Council,” he said.

“ It’s a practical, common-sense change and one that removes confusion and gives residents clear, straightforward access to the services they need.

“This is the kind of decision that puts community first, and it sets North Yeoval up for a strong future.”

DRC will write directly to affected North Yeoval property owners in the coming weeks to formally advise of the change and what it means for their property.

Cabonne Council will assume responsibility for rates, services and enquiries from July 1 with further information to be provided to residents to support a smooth transition.

The initiative responds to long-standing community feedback and will unify the village of Yeoval under one local government area, aiming at improving service delivery and reducing confusion for residents.
