A BIG day for Yeoval
FRIDAY, July 10 was celebration day at Yeoval when more than 60 residents teamed-up with dignitaries to officially unite North Yeoval with the rest of the town.
It’s been just over 140 years since a line was drawn through the middle of Buckinbah Creek during the introduction of counties, and over the years, North Yeoval was severed from the rest of the town – and two councils whose border was Buckinbah Creek.
Friday’s official ribbon cutting on the pedestrian bridge spanning Buckinbah Creek had Dubbo Regional Council hand over the northern part of Yeoval to Cabonne council in a fitting ceremony accompanied by the mayors and general managers of both councils, local state MP Phil Donato and Federal member for Calare, Andrew Gee.
Cabonne mayor Kevin Beaty said today was a celebration of Yeoval becoming one community under one local government area.
He said many people including former Cabonne councillors had pushed hard for this to happen many decades ago.
“This adjustment is more than a line on a map,” he said.
“It reflects what all have known, that Yeoval is one community.
“This achievement is the result of years of advocacy, community feedback and cooperation and demonstrates what can be achieved when councils work together.”
DRC mayor Josh Black said it was a great day for Yeoval.
“This has been a fantastic corroboration between Cabonne council and DRC, but something that should have happened a long time ago.”
Federal Member for Calare, Andrew Gee said the uniting of the community was a good, commonsense outcome.
