Guys and Dolls addition to 2026 Boot

The Leader’s Sharon Wilson and Wellington Soldiers’ Jane Angelini show-off the wonderful Guys and Dolls Challenge sashes all ready for the 2026 Wellington Boot.

FOR DECADES it was for the girls, but times have changed and so too does competition entries.

The 2026 Wellington Boot race that stops not only Wellington, but the Central West and Orana regions, has an exciting addition.

What used to be the Ms Wellington Boot challenge is returning, but with a twist – the Challenge is open to males and females aged from 18 to 30 years of age.

Featured at the Tooheys 2026 Wellington Boot Guys and Dolls Challenge, the contest has only 14 available positions and when nominations open early this year, they’ll fill quick.

It’s a bit far away, April 10 and 12 this year, but the promotion has begun and information pamphlets will be distributed at the Boxing Day races.

The 14 Challenge contestants will be hosts of sponsors, Wellington Soldiers Memorial and Golf Group, Wellington and District Leader newspaper, Wellington Race Club and Tooheys.

Nominations will only be received at the Soldiers Club and contestants will be drawn out of a barrel during the pre-Boot Calcutta on the evening of Saturday, April; 11, then guest of all sponsors on Boot race day.

All each contestant has to do is draw a Boot runner at the Calcutta, they follow the big day of racing on Sunday, April 12, and with some luck hold the ticket of the winner or second or third placings to share in the beaut prizes on offer.

More details to come, so, be ready to nominate when entries open on February 2.
